Amy Winehouse. My awkward high school self was inspired by your retro 1960s style and music. I adopted your signature cat eye and continue to wear it today! Hearing your song “You Know I’m No Good” in the Mad Men trailer in its first season is one of the reasons I decided to watch an episode and now it has become an obsession. You were so unique and unapologetic about who you were. Sure, you made decisions that were not the most healthy or wise, but we all make mistakes and I don’t personally know you and don’t have any right to judge you. Thanks for making music that really spoke to me as a teenager and as a 20 something today, and thanks for being as stylin as you were, for bringing some retro flavor to the modern age. You’ve been an influence on me with your style, music, and femme fatale attitude.

A quote from

- na na na nita

Sobriety of Style- phrase taken from Vogue Italia 10/2001 editorial by Steven Meisel feat. Amber Valetta

"In 2010, I will practice “sobriety of style.” The bright colors will retire to the back of the wardrobe save for the occasional pop in the form of a metallic denim mini skirt (Trash and Vaudeville) and the lapiz sequined beret (FoReVa 2 1 ). Blacks, grays, and taupes (camels?) will dominate, punctuated by studs of silver and gold, on both apparel and the face. This will be attempted for the remaining winter months. When Spring arrives, who knows?"

New Pioneer Society dominated Battle of the Bands. We took home first place. What an amazing night, I’ve never had so much fun performing onstage, than I have with this bunch of amazing individuals.

A quote from My god, my god. This blog.  (via nogreatillusion)

"It seems to me that men rank you and pit themselves against you and wonder who is better and declare you the smartest or most beautiful and meanwhile we worry for them and wish revelations upon them and hope they will love us because could they, really, if they knew the truth? That we are smart without them and beautiful without them telling us so, and that deep down, in most cases, we know we are better?"

If only I could tell god that I want to eat his ocean and warm glowy light.”

“A little boy (maybe 5 years old) wrote to Maurice Sendak telling him how much he loved his books, his drawings, everything about him. As you might imagine, Sendak gets a lot of fan mail, but he was so moved by this one that he wrote the boy back and enclosed an original drawing, just for him.

The boy was so overjoyed when he received the drawing that he ate it, the entire thing, every last shred of pulp and ink.

His mom wrote back to the author, telling him the story. Sendak was thrilled, saying that that was the greatest compliment he had ever received.
