Coco Rocha for Jean-Paul Gaultier

Coco Rocha in this “Roaring Twenties” inspired photoshoot, wearing clothes by the legendary Gaultier. I think this series of photos speaks for themselves. I’m such a fan of this era. Flapper style dressing is so iconic and was so groundbreaking at the time: A-line dresses and low hemlines turned notions of feminity on their head. The look was very androgynous. There were still low cut necklines however, and backless evening gowns adorned with beads and feathers.  Girls cut off their hair, the long hair idealized in the previous Victorian era.  Cloche hats were an “It” accessory as were scarves, aviators, and leather jackets which drew inspiration from World War I, which has recently ended.   The “flapper” look was radical for its time, and continues to be emulated and drawn on for inspiration.

My friends and I are planning to have a Great Gatsby themed costume party in the fall.  The flapper look will definitely be drawn upon.
